Filming for the movie Shawshank Redemption in Mansfield Ohio wrapped their final scene in the Fall of 1993. At the end of that day, the wrecking ball began destroying the magnificent 100 year old haunted structure and all of the history within. Fortunately, a small band of intrepid visionaries were able to stop the demolition. All of the outside buildings and walls were gone, but the castle-like main structure and central cell blocks remained untouched. Because of their dedication, the building, along with many of its stories, lives on today. With a 100 year history of legitimate hauntings in what was aptly nicknamed “Dracula’s Castle” in the 1800’s, this is absolutely a true haunted experience.

The folklore of the building is nothing short of diabolical. There are many inmates that still walk the halls of the Ohio State Reformatory (OSR) in search of something most have not yet figured out. Reports of shadow men darting in and out of the cells and the disembodied voices creeping from empty rooms keep visitors coming back year after year to participate in the Ohio State Reformatory GHOST HUNTS.

Doors slamming, visitors being pushed or touched, and equipment failure are some of the many experiences ghost hunters find when traipsing around the dark building during the twilight hours. The allure of such activity has sparked the interest of many paranormal shows that highlight haunted facilities such as the OSR. This magnificent haunted structure has been featured on My Ghost Story, Paranormal Challenge, Ghost Adventures, Ghost Hunters Academy, Ghost Hunters, and Scariest Places on Earth. There's a lot of activity that happens in the darkness, and reports from investigators that paranormal activity is at its highest during and after Halloween because the spirits have been disturbed.

This year’s twisted haunt, ESCAPE FROM BLOOD PRISON, is being led by the dark imaginings of Undead Studios’ owner Vic Amesquita. Vic has worked with legends of the haunt world including terror master and special effects icon, Robert Kurtzman. Vic brings his own special brand of scary titillating fun and macabre and sinister terror to the Reformatory.

Covering 100,000 square feet , Blood Prison will be a horrific haunt experience not soon forgotten. With ever expanding future plans beyond this year and into the future, guests can plan to experience something new every time they come, and they do come!  Located in Mansfield, Ohio, The Reformatory is a short drive from every major Ohio city including Columbus, Canton, Akron, Cleveland, Sandusky and more. "As a destination haunt, we actually receive guests from all across the country, especially our neighboring states of Michigan, Indiana and Pennsylvania," says Mary Kennard, director at OSR.

Plan to be immersed into the terrifying haunted prison culture. Throughout the prison areas, crazed inmates and guards roam, waiting to make you the next addition to their putrified hordes. With a band of criminals, guard clowns, insane iconic gangsters and madmen, be prepared to scream. With a seasoned cast of actors and fiends, prepare to be treated to a festival of fear. Plan a trip today, because this might just be the scariest haunt experience of your lifetime!

Netherworld under Massive Re-Build - Netherworld Escape
Sun, July 15, 2018

The Team behind Netherworld haunted house are FULL TEAM AHEAD rebuilding from ground up!  Recently we visited Ben Armstrong and his crew to find out the latest about the all-new Netherworld.  Now Netherworld has a new location near a popular tourist attraction called Stone Mountain.  The new Netherworld is over 4 times bigger than their old location and also features
three different escape rooms, Netherworld Horror Museum, VIP Party Rooms and two massive haunted houses.

After touring the famous haunted house I was left with a feeling like CAN THEY GET THIS FINISHED because there is a lot of work yet to do!
When we visited we saw no less than 20 to 25 people working overtime to complete the all new Netherworld haunted house in Atlanta, Georgia.
The three escape rooms and horror museum are already open to the public after tour those attractions we left extremely impressed.  The horror museum
is simply World Class probably the best thing Netherworld has ever done that I've seen.  Their escape rooms have a lot of very cool elements and are
top notch when it comes to attention to detail.

If you're out touring haunted house this Fall make sure you check out the all-new Netherworld www.FearWorld.com

Midwest Haunters Convention On the Move - Chicago
Wed, June 20, 2018

Transworld producer of both The Midwest Haunters Convention and the St Louis Haunted House Tradeshow announced the MHC will move to Chicago Illinois starting 2019.  MHC was a regional haunt gathering started years ago and took a life of its own.  The show was sold by the private producers to Transworld a couple years ago and now the show is moving after a long stay in Columbus, Ohio.  Is MHC moving to Chicago a good idea?  Does the industry even need MHC what so ever?  Good and fair questions.

Let me answer both. NO!

MHC is known mostly for parties, free seminars, and tons of haunt tours.  Understanding that after over 10 years in Columbus they've more or less run out of haunted house tours to attract buyers to the show.  So sure the show should move.  Agreed.  But Chicago?  No offense to Chicago but it's not a haunted hot bed, and furthermore if you're going to branch out from Chicago Transworld will find that to be very difficult.  Furthmore they should already know that from the retail show trying Haunt tours from Chicago.  Granted there are more haunted houses in Chicago today than 10 years ago but still not much to tour.  So where should hte show have moved?  Philly because Philly is close to New York, Baltimore, DC, New Jersey, and Boston actually isn't that far away.  There is probably 70 million people living within a 3 hour drive of Philadelphia.  There are more haunts to tour in or around Philly than anywhere in the nation.

Some will say oh wait another show tried and failed in Philly... yeah but they never had any promotion, no experience, and never had the money or experience that Transworld has.  Chicago also is very close to St Louis so why Chicago.  My view HUGE MISTAKE!

Secondly, MHC isn't even needed at all.  Vendors do not want to support two tradeshows in fact if a haunt vendor was going to support two shows then IAAPA would be the natural second show.  It really doesn't matter where you move this show, vendors are knee deep into production by the time MHC comes around.  Going to MHC as a vendor not only costs you money but it costs you production time from your shop.  No haunts need to leave their shop in the middle of production.

As it stands the main show located in St Louis is already at the end of the rope for taking orders and producing products.  There is a lot of proof of this... talk to any major haunt they've already placed a lot of orders in the Winter long before the main show in St Louis happens.  Honestly March is right in the middle of where most haunts want to order, and giving vendors enough time to produce new products.  Given those facts the haunt tradeshow could probably move up at least 30 days but it can be argued both ways.  Bottom line you don't need two shows a few weeks apart, 4 hours apart, for an industry that honestly only needs ONE SHOW!

We'll see what happens.

Halloween Movie Trailer - Opens this October Could Impact Haunts
Wed, June 13, 2018

Check out the newest Halloween reboot movie trailer.  Halloween has been rebooted so many times it's really hard to get excited about a new version.  Danny Green one of the smartest comic writers in Hollywood is taking his STAB at the Myers saga.  After seeing this newest movie trailer we're flat out excited.  This trailer takes Myers back to his roots, bringing back John Carpenter to score the film and produce.  Halloween fans are ready for Halloween this coming October.  It's hard to say if a scary movies with a lot of media behind it will impact horror fans visiting haunted houses.  For years now very few if any good horror movies have opened in October, as Hollywood typically opens their horror fare outside of the Halloween timeframe.  Even with Rob Zombie re-lauched his vision of Halloween they released in August.  This version has a lot of hype and could impact how many people visit haunts.  Another theory is it could bring more attention to haunted houses.

For years now haunts have been under siege from all the spin off offerings during the month of October.  A really good and scary horror movie could slash into haunt profits.  We'll find out when Myers comes back to the screen this October.
